ACCOMPLISHMENTS

 

  • Incorporated as an independent 501(c)(3) community foundation on April 7, 2006 to better serve the needs of Greater Long Beach.  Began operating as an independent charity on July 1, 2007.

 

  • Established over 40 funds with assets totaling more than $10 million.

 

  • Raised $1.2 million in cash and commitments for a Founders Fund to support operations for the next five years.

 

  • Administered donor grants to worthy nonprofit organizations – currently at the rate of more than $400,000 a year.

 

  • Since inception, made discretionary grants of more than $500,000 to more than 40 local nonprofit organizations in the Long Beach area.

 

  • Since 1999, administered more than $600,000 to send underprivileged children from the Greater Long Beach area to summer camp.

 

  • Award recipient of the 2005 Building Bridges Award from the Greater Long Beach Chapter of the National Conference for Community and Justice

 

  • Award recipient of the 2007 Making a Difference Award from Operation Jump Start.

 

  • Provided start-up funds for the YMCA Youth Institute at Stephens Middle School, now a national signature youth training program in the media arts.

 

  • Appointed in 2007 as the grantmaking agent for the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation’s Local Communities Program to distribute more than $550,000 in transformational grants to area projects and programs.
