Jean Bixby Smith, Chair
A direct descendant of the original Long Beach land owners, Jean has been intimately involved with Long Beach all her life. Now retired from her real estate development role, she has been involved with LBCF since inception in 1996 and Board Chair since the departure of Dan Ridder in 1997. With a strong commitment to philanthropy with both dollars and service, Jean also serves on the board for the California Community Foundation, as well as several other nonprofit organizations including Rancho Los Cerritos Foundation, Los Angeles Universal Preschool, and the Arts Council for Long Beach.
Kevin P. McGuan, Vice-Chair
Currently Vice President/Senior Financial Consultant with Merrill Lynch in Long Beach, Kevin has served on the Board since inception in 1996. He is President of the City of Long Beach Joint Powers Authority Commission, a past President of the Estate Planning & Trust Council of Long Beach, and past Board Chair for Long Beach Memorial Medical Center Foundation.
James J. Sullos, Jr., Chief Financial Officer
Retired as Managing Partner of one of the largest CPA firms in Long Beach, Jim joined the LBCF Board in 2005. He is a former president of the California State Board of Accountancy and currently serves as Board Chair for a large independent bank in Long Beach. He is also directly involved with numerous local nonprofit organizations including Long Beach City College Foundation, Los Cerritos Foundation, and Musical Theatre West Audit Committee.
Dr. Frances Grover, Secretary
A retired neuroscientist and UCLA Professor, Frances is a long-time resident of Long Beach and an active philanthropist in the community. Her involvement with the LBCF Board began with the Foundation’s inception in 1996.
Eleanor Aguilar
A longtime resident of Long Beach, Eleanor has more than 20 years of executive experience in the public and private sectors, including United Way Harbor/Southeast Region, Queenscare, and Bank of America Charitable Foundation's corporate social responsibility team. Eleanor serves on the Board of Trustees for Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, and her past Board services includes CCEJ, Long Beach Nonprofit Partnership, City of Long Beach Police Complaint Commission, and Chapter Chair of Hispanics in Philanthropy.
William C. Barnes
William is retired as Executive Dean of Long Beach City College. He served as a member of the Knight Foundation Long Beach Community Advisory Committee before it was dismantled. He has been on the LBCF Board since inception.

Gloria Cordero
Gloria is a longtime Long Beach resident and Principal in the ABC Advocacy Group, a strategic communication and public affairs company based in Long Beach. Her areas of expertise include local government affairs, strategic planning, education, advocacy & coalition building, media spokesperson, and public management. Gloria's career has included positions with City of Long Beach, Long Beach City College, and Southern California Edison. Her extensive volunteer work includes developing and chairing the first Leadership Long Beach Youth Leadership program. Gloria is married to Mario Cordero, who was appointed as a Federal Maritime Commissioner in 2011.
Randal Hernandez
Currently Senior VP, External Affairs Executive for Union Bank, Randal is based in Long Beach. Previously with Bank of America, Randal has expertise in government relations, economic development and public policy. He has resided in Long Beach for over twenty years. He earned both bachelor's and master's degrees from CSU Long Beach, served as chief-of-staff to former mayor Beverly O'Neill, senior staff to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and is a Leadership Long Beach graduate. He serves on several boards in the Los Angeles area with a focus on economic, workforce, and public policy issues.
Jane Netherton
President and CEO of International City Bank since 1986, Jane also served as chair of the Knight Foundation Long Beach Community Advisory Committee until it was dismantled in December 2007. She joined the LBCF Board in 2007 and is actively involved in the community as a past Rotary Club President, Chair of Downtown Long Beach Associates, and a Governor on the Board for California State University, Long Beach.
Dr. Alex Norman
A Professor Emeritus of Social Welfare at UCLA, Alex is now a consultant and researcher in organization development/transformation, strategic planning, managing change, and teambuilding. He is one of the founders of ReThinking Greater Long Beach, a community think-tank compiling demographic, crime, and education data to provide analysis for program and service-delivery in the community. Alex served on the Knight Foundation Long Beach Community Advisory Committee and joined the LBCF Board in 2007.
Peter B. Ridder
Peter served as Publisher of the Press-Telegram from 1988 -1992. He moved on to hold the position of Publisher & President at papers in other cities from 1992 – 2006 when he retired and returned to Long Beach. During his time at the Charlotte Observer, he also served as Board Chair of the Foundation for the Carolinas. He joined the LBCF Board in 2007. He also serves on the board of Long Beach Memorial Medical Center Foundation.
Richer San
An active member of the Long Beach Cambodian community, Richer was the key force behind organizing what is now the annual Cambodian New Year parade. With his wife, Sithea, he was also instrumental in establishing the Cambodia Town Business and Cultural District along the Anaheim Street corridor in 2007. Richer advises business enterprises and economic development efforts in his native Cambodia, from which he escaped the Khmer Rouge regime as a teenager. He is Senior Vice President of Akra Agriculture Partners, Inc., and President & CEO of Golden Shore Company Ltd. in Phnom Penh.
STAFF
James A. Worsham, President/CEO
Jim is one of the original organizers of LBCF's predecessor, the Greater Long Beach Foundation, which was founded in 1996. He was involved as Vice Chair of the Board for the Foundation until retiring from his professional career as a Certified Public Accountant in 2003, at which time he became President/CEO of LBCF. He also served as Chair for the Knight Foundation Long Beach Community Advisory Committee. Active in philanthropy and charitable causes for many years, Jim is an active member of the Long Beach Rotary Club and has served on local boards for Long Beach Rescue Mission, Rotary Charitable Foundation, Long Beach Nonprofit Partnership, among others.
