October 2011 - LBCF is helping bring back public access television to Long Beach with funding support from a Knight Foundation Community Information Challenge grant and City of Long Beach PEG (Public/Education/Government) funds. The Public Access Digital Network (PADNET) is being managed by Long Beach Community Action Partnership (LBCAP) and will offer not only television viewing opportunities but on-demand Internet and mobile device access. A network of neighborhood media centers will be established throughout the city to provide equipment rental and use of a video editing station. More information can be obtained on LBCAP's website. August 2011 - Join the movement to get Californians to announce meaningful gifts to charity in their wills so planned gifts become commonplace! October 1, 2011 is California Plan Your Giving Day and the movement's goal is to see 500 pledges on the website by October 1. August 1, 2011 - Thanks to its generous readers, the Press-Telegram Send-a-Kid-to-Camp campaign has raised nearly $1 million since its inception in 1999. Each of the "Big Five" youth agencies in Long Beach - YMCA, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Boys & Girls Clubs, and Camp Fire USA - are receiving grants of $13,000 this year to fund scholarships for children to attend a week-long summer camp in the mountains. The opportunity to escape city life for a week, enjoy nature, make new friends, and develop new skills has often proved to be life-changing for the youth who participate.
