Social Impact Funds
We partner with different types of organizations to address new, critical and emerging needs that exist within our city.

ACE Academy
Over the next decade, the California construction and infrastructure industry will need a wide range of highly educated and skilled workers. Community leaders and educators are responding to this need by launching the city’s first, state-of-the-art vocational education program at Jordan High School. ACE Academy offers young men and women comprehensive construction and technical training courses and hands-on experience to help transition our community’s youth into meaningful employment.
Community Endowment Fund
The Community Foundation’s primary purpose is to build a permanent endowment fund to support the charitable needs of our city. Every year, the Community Foundation determines suitable areas of focus for discretionary and strategic grant-making from the Community Endowment Fund. These grants help nonprofits leverage their resources in ways that meet critical, new and emerging needs. The annual distribution payout is about five percent. As the Community Endowment Fund’s corpus grows, the grant amount increases.
Press-Telegram’s Send-A-Kid-to-Camp Fund
The Press-Telegram and columnist Tom Hennessey helped launch this fund more than ten years ago to provide underprivileged children from the community with the experience of attending summer camp. To date, generous citizens, area businesses, and service clubs have raised more than $800,000 for camp scholarships to:
- Boy Scouts of America Long Beach Area Council
- Boy & Girls Clubs of Long Beach
- Camp Fire Girls USA, Long Beach Area Council
- Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles, Southwest Region Long Beach
- YMCA of Greater Long Beach
Public safety, emergency response and disaster preparedness remain chief concerns for area citizens. The Public Safety Fund provides a pool of funds to enable the community to participate in needs that are typically not available through existing police, fire and city budgets. This unique fund is not controlled nor disbursed at the discretion of City government but an opportunity for the Community Foundation to work closely with community leaders to identify pressing issues that affect the well-being of our city.
Safe & Smart After School
After school programs have a positive effect on every member of society. These vital programs improve students’ academic and social performance, strengthen working families and provide safe and productive alternatives for our children. Launched by the generosity of Edison International, the Long Beach Safe & Smart After School Fund provides critical matching support to the Long Beach Unified School District and service groups to qualify for Proposition 49 funds.
